What is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth, or June 19, is the anniversary of the day in 1865 when the last group of enslaved Black Americans was freed by Union troops in Galveston, Texas

Why is it important?
Juneteenth is the oldest holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the US. The date coincides with General Gordon Granger issuing General Order No. 3 on June 19, 1865... two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation and two months after the end of the Civil War
